How the Moderator System Works

Recently, we have had a lot of players ask about the role of moderators in our gaming community. Moderators are an essential part of our team because they represent a direct bridge between our game developers and our community of players. Their jobs are to keep the Global Chat for each server civil, to warn and reprimand players who break the rules, and to help novice players become acquainted with the games they are playing. These are just the main tasks they are responsible for. They are also knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our games and can answer just about any question you pose to them about gameplay, updates, or errors.

What Moderators Do for Us: How the System Works

Our current moderator system is highly organized, with a set hierarchy filled with checks and balances to ensure that every moderator is operating up to company standards. Every moderator on every server has a direct superior that they report to and, in most cases, these higher-level moderators have several layers of managers above them that they report to. We feel that this is the best way for us to find dedicated moderators to help represent our company. It also allows us to keep every moderator in check, so they do not feel the need to abuse their powers. As you might imagine, this is no small task and it requires many, many man-hours to keep everything running smoothly. Luckily, we have a diligent team of Head and Assistant Head Moderators that we trust implicitly to get the job done.

Each moderator is required to spend several hours a day on their particular server, monitoring chats and answering questions. When players are deemed to be in violation of the Terms of Service for the game, moderators have the power to first mute them for a number of hours and then ban them completely from their server. Violations of the Terms of Service include: using foul or offensive language, insulting other players, cheating, discussing banned subjects over chat, and bullying other players. Generally, a player will first be warned, then muted, and then, in extreme cases, banned if they continue to violate the rules. We never want to ban or mute a player from our games, but we have empowered out moderators to do this when all else fails.

Our moderator community is helpful to us in many other ways as well. When we have something that needs to be translated into a foreign language, the first people we go to are the moderators. Who better to help us than players who are intimately familiar with our games? When we have problems with a game, be it a bug or login error or server merge issue, we rely on our moderators to get to the bottom of the issue so our development teams can fix it more quickly. When something needs to be announced immediately to our player community, we empower our moderators to spread the word. Moderators represent our company on a grassroots level and we would not be able to function as we do without them.

Want to be a Moderator?

If you enjoy playing one of our games and already spend a lot of time on a server playing it and would like to become a moderator, there are several things you can do. The first step is to diligently play the game and become a part of our active gaming community. We hold our moderators in very high regard and have very high standards for them. By being a good member of the Tap4Fun player community, you can audition for the position unofficially and also get to know the other players on your server, which is essential to effective moderation.

The second step is to contact existing moderators on your server and inquire about open moderator positions. We are always opening up new servers as our games grow in popularity, so we are always looking for good people to become moderators. If the moderator on your server believes that you would be a good moderator, he/she will have you fill out an application and your candidacy will by reviewed by our team of Head and Assistant Head Moderators. If you are deemed a good fit, you will be contacted directly, be trained, and then be assigned to a server that needs you.

Once you are a moderator, you will have to power to shape the community on your server. But don’t let this power go to your head. We are always reviewing our moderators’ performance and players on each server are always sending us feedback, good and bad, on their moderators. Our player community is very demanding and the moderator position is a highly sought-after one, so standards will be high, but the work is also very rewarding.

If you feel as though you are a good candidate to become a Tap4Fun Moderator, please do not hesitate to apply. We are always looking for helpful, responsible, and dedicated people to join our team.

The moderators cause much more trouble than they prevent.

    • Charlie January 3, 2014 at 5:22 am #

If you have any evidence of moderator misbehavior, please send that to us and we’ll take appropriate action if necessary. You can email either or charlie@tap4fun and we’ll do whatever we can to help.

Without our moderators, players would be allowed to cheat, abuse other players, use inappropriate language and otherwise ruin the in-game experience for everyone without being reprimanded in any way. Because we have all sorts of people playing our games, it is important that we have moderators to monitor our servers. That is why they are essential.

I was muted for my name in two accounts
Trampone and onetramp,I was allowed to continue to play but not allowed on world chat. I understood that and continued to play for a month or two, I had no problem with it. But now I have been banned and after reading this post about moderators being able to ban a player I think I know why.
My alliance has been “at war ” with an alliance called “afterbirth” one of the key players in afterbirth is a fellow named hustla (in American slang hustler is a street prostiute). They have a team they have named “team moist” an obvious reference with sexual connotation.
After being banned my account was attacked by this alliance and “wiped”
I feel that I have been cheated. I spent money and time building these accounts. If I need to change my name fine I can do that but why would tap4fun allow this abuse of power

        • Alex Pei March 31, 2014 at 2:38 am #

          Hi Dan,

We do not tolerate mis-use of power. Our Moderators are meant to keep the peace between players, and prevent any breaking of rules. If you feel that our Moderators are abusing the system by showing bias towards certain individuals, than please feel free to civilly inform other Moderators or the Community Manager with the details of your incident. You may get in contact with these people by going back into the game and speaking with other Moderators, or by posting on the Forums at

          I hope this helps!

I agree with you bro..moderators they have so much power they could around bullying other players and they always seem to get new god cards than everyone else. For example Filthy curse.. they attack you with 1m gladiators to break your defenses followed by 1 soldier of everything else so their god could activate and kill 20 percent of your army per round… how are you supposed to raise an army like that…1m gladiators is already enough to kill defeat my army plus they send you a god that kills all your army seriously is that fair

          • Alex November 20, 2014 at 5:02 pm #

            Hey Freddy,

I assure you that we don’t give our Moderators any benefits such as that. If there truly is bullying going on, please feel free to report the Moderator in question to our Customer Support with proof of your claim; that will allow us to investigate properly on the Moderator and determine what to do to keep our system as clean and beneficial to the Community as possible.

well, there are no moderators on my server and people are abusing the rules and I would like to be one.

    • Robin January 14, 2014 at 8:29 am #

If you want to be a moderator, the best way is to talk to a moderator on the server you play on. Unless it’s a very new server, your server should have moderators on it.

If you’re interested in applying to be a Moderator, seek out one of the current Moderators on your server, you can tell by the color of their name!

  6. Clayton January 6, 2014 at 8:34 pm #

Alright, wow, I feel as if I’ve just been groomed to the tee! Why didn’t I just read this from the get-go? Everything now makes perfect sense, with all the reasoning to my questions That I need for all my answers! Well then, how was my audition? Let me guess, it was alright, becoming general, maintaining and running union alright, engaging in global chat more than frequently, and sustaining competition competitively, but giving back to head guy, his entitlement to his job? How many more mod jobs are we competing for if that has any relevance to apply for an application?

    • Robin January 7, 2014 at 7:17 am #

Our moderators have requested that players keep requests for applications to a minimum. Just be a good player and community member and our mods will find you. Any application must go through our moderator teams, so for people who want to be mods, ask a mod in-game. I want to stress that there are not many spots available and the number changes every day, so the best advice to everyone is to be helpful and enthusiastic and play the game a lot.

  7. Aleksey January 8, 2014 at 11:02 am #

Dear developers, I play the game Spartan Vars.

I would like to ask a few questions!

    1. Ordinary player can give as a gift to your account as a gift to another player?
    2. Can a moderator consist in the alliance?
    3. What do I do if a moderator writes in global chat about his dislike to me and then gives me two bezprechinno ban row?
    4. The participant seems to moderator our server but if you click on this player that it says the financial minister and there is no telling what that would be about his credentials moderator. Meanwhile nemenie private message came about because of the ban, and it is just that the message is signed igrakov as possible?

    • Alex Pei March 19, 2014 at 8:48 am #

      Hi Aleksey,

      1) In short, yes, however, the receiving player becomes responsible for any and all actions that has occurred or will occur on the account being given. Also, as a reminder, as a gift it is not against our Terms of Service, but any exchange of currency or trade is strictly forbidden.
      2) Yes, a Moderator can be in an Alliance, but they are expected to act appropriately, and not use their Moderator privileges only when the situation calls for it.
      3) If a Moderator is not acting the way we expect of a person in their position, then it is appropriate for you to inform another Moderator about the possibility of misuse of power, and the Moderators will take the proper measures to ensure that all is in order.
      4) Our Moderators have official signs that prove that they have undergone our application and training processes. If a player in question does not have the status of Moderator, then they may be an impostor and players should inform an official Moderator of the impostor.

      Hi Darby,

If you’d like to apply to be a Moderator for a new server, you still need to get in contact with one of our existing Moderators, tell them your interest in applying, and fill out their application form.

  11. batman January 29, 2014 at 10:46 pm #

I have submitted multiple screenshots of a certain moderator being unprofessional and there are many complaints about this moderator that goes by the name realkarma in server 64 yet nothing has been done about it. You say you hold your moderators to high standards and always review them but I highly doubt that because if that was true this mod would have been stripped of his power long ago. I even have proof of him going on gc to promote his website, asking people to add him on line and twitter.

    • Alex Pei March 18, 2014 at 9:37 am #

Who have you submitted this proof to? You should submit this type of proof to other Moderators, as other Moderators would not stand for one of their own acting disrespectful toward the community. You can get into contact with other Moderators or someone who may be of help in the Official Tap4Fun Forums at

  12. Gary January 30, 2014 at 1:18 pm #

There are no moderators on my server in Galaxy Legends and none that I’ve seen on my server in Galaxy Legends: Pioneer. Sad thing is, I have put in help tickets more than a week ago and they have yet to be answered. Wish that we did have mods to help expedite the process.

    • Alex Pei March 18, 2014 at 9:30 am #

      Hey Gary,

If there are no Moderators yet on the server or game you play on, perhaps you’d like to become one yourself! Then you could help organize the server and its players, and keep everything in order! Until someone becomes a Moderator, you will just have to rely on the Customer Support (as provided in the link in-game or by e-mailing

  13. James February 4, 2014 at 5:00 am #

Ive applied to be a mod long before the three new mods on the server im on in Spartan Wars, and I never see them say ANYTHING to violators. im on the game a good 5 hours a day, split times of course as my phone dies from over use.

    • Alex Pei March 18, 2014 at 9:18 am #

      Hi James,

Speak with the moderators again about becoming a moderator. If you provide constructive criticism and they feel you will be a beneficial part of the team, I see no reason for them to not let you be a part of the team.

    • Alex Pei March 17, 2014 at 10:04 am #

      Hey Elijah,

Even though that server may not currently have a Moderator, there are Moderators that have knowledge of these other servers or games. You may ask Moderators from the original Galaxy Empire game for an attempt to become a Moderator!

Is there any payments or rewards for being a moderator on an server? Or its just the fun of it? I am in top position on 3 servers and i spend more than 3 hours each day on each and every world that i am playing (Galaxy Legend only)

    • Alex Pei March 17, 2014 at 8:38 am #

      Hi Mielu,

There are no additional payments or rewards for being a Moderator–however, by being a Moderator, you can help us create a better and more comfortable environment for everyone within whichever game you enjoy the most! This system allows our players to help benefit the community and make the games we enjoy even more safe and entertaining for other players (as well as themselves!)

  17. Bill March 3, 2014 at 4:42 am #

I see what they are supposed to do, but what about when a mod is a troll? I see nowhere here to complain. I tried and never got a response, it just seemed like she told the mod that I complained so he could retaliate against me. Being bullied and trolled by your mods is not a fun way to play game and spend money. I guess you don’t care as long as you get my cash. If it continues, I will have to stop playing. Being belittled by your mods is not fun. Please make them stop.

    • Alex Pei March 17, 2014 at 8:27 am #

      Hi Bill,

I understand your concern about moderators abusing their power. In this case, it is best if you contact another moderator and let them know of this. We have a very strict image on how moderators must act and use the privilege they’ve been given properly.

By providing proof of abuse of power, this will definitely help justify yourself, and will help us monitor and manage our moderators.

      I hope this helps.

  18. Leonid March 19, 2014 at 11:05 am #

    Dear developers!
I play Empire King’s on a server ALL-049. I really want to be a moderator. Using your advice, found moderator. Asked what do you need to become a moderator on this server. Three days no answer, but as moderator. And the dirt in the chat in both English and Russian are tired of reading. I have a question for you, what to do?
    Thank you for your attention!.

    • Alex Pei March 20, 2014 at 6:11 am #

      Hi Leonid,

You really need to put yourself out there in order to get their attention sometimes!

Perhaps you could utilize other ways to communicate with our Moderators, such as through the Official Forums at!

  19. buringmuffins March 20, 2014 at 9:25 am #

In server 18 of kings empire I was muted permanently for my name, Buringmuffins. Due to the way the world chat filter is scripted my name showed up as Buring****ins being the muff is slang for a part of the female anatomy… I was never given a warning an emailed tap4fun support an got nothing back in response? This happened a couple of months ago an have received zero assistance.

    • Alex Pei March 21, 2014 at 6:27 am #

      Hi buringmuffins,

If this is the case, you could try to contact one of the Moderators about this and tell them about this issue. Perhaps it was an honest mistake and they will gladly re-instate your account.

  20. Alex Pei March 24, 2014 at 9:33 am #

    Hi goldenthistle,

If there are other players acting inappropriately without punishment, it is possible that the Moderator did not see the incidents. If you would like to help, providing screen shots or proof of players violating the rules to your local Moderator can help create a better environment in your server!

  21. Snafu April 9, 2014 at 12:39 pm #
  22. The mod system is corrupt, information is submitted to moderators and is not passed up the chain, fabricated evidence is used to ban players. The mods only see information that benefits their alliance. How can volunteers be responsible for banning paying customers. Moderators have access to your device udid, you may as well give them the keys to your house. Shocking system needs a massive overhaul.

  • Gabriel August 28, 2014 at 6:51 am #

Hi, I have a question. In server 75 is a playe bobtw4 and he says that his father works for tap4fun.he is trying to scare us with that. Also he owns lots of different accounts. He made a fake account named Test0035 and send messages trying to steal info from other players. I was in his alliance for about 2 weeks and I think he cheats. That alliance destroyed the server and many players left the game becouse of them.

    • Alex Pei September 4, 2014 at 9:50 am #

      Hi Gabriel,

If you suspect that a player is cheating or otherwise making the game unfair, I recommend contacting a local Moderator and reporting the player. If you cannot find a Moderator, then I suggest contacting Customer Support using the in-game Contact Us link.

  • John Smith September 2, 2014 at 3:08 am #

This moderator system is a joke. You give players power to moderate the players they are competing with while running their own active account and alliance on the same server they are moderating. The previous complaints are true and you see it all the time. They abuse mod power to support their nationality, ignoring chat violations from their own while threatening others for doing the same thing. All day long the victims complain but if you are not “with them” you will be ignored. It couldn’t be any more corrupt. Now that there is a translation button you can see them plan. “Do we have a mod for our side yet on this server? Yes we have playerX. Great let’s kill all the Westerners.”

Your game and the way it is moderated is a disgrace and I’m through. Any Westerner reading this should steer clear. You will pull your hair out trying to find unbiased fun gameplay.

    • Alex Pei September 4, 2014 at 8:44 am #

      Hi John,

Our Moderators have been trained and taught to avoid such bias. And to prevent that sort of abuse, we do have the means to investigate whether a Moderator is being biased or not. This is something that can be reported to the company and can be investigated as a private matter.

If you have any issues with Moderators, you may discuss it with me personally at or by contacting Customer Support on a case by case basis.

I hope that there none of our Moderators abuse their power, and if they do, I would like to put an end to any abuse that exists.

      Hi Rashik,

All applications should go through existing Moderators, you should only e-mail that address as a last resort. Applications that go through that e-mail are checked, and only those who will be further looked into by those who control the address will receive a reply.

  • OρтιмυѕƤяιмє March 25, 2015 at 8:11 am #

In my own personal experience, I have come to realize a few things… What people seem to forget is that Mods aren’t a completely different entity from players. The Mod Program is made up of people who simply enjoy playing the game and want to see it thrive and be clean and respectable…most importantly, enjoyable by all.

I have had several conversations with Moderators in the game and have come to realize that 9 times out of 10, Mods don’t WANT to give someone a warning and/or a mute. They simply want to play the game, enjoy the game, and have normal conversation.

Another thing is that typically, most players dont mind having Moderators around and actually welcome them into chat. Why? Because they see the importance of them. Mods are an in-game support system, again, made up of *players*. The only ones who usually have an issue with Mods are the ones who get muted after several ToS violations.

    Just my thought.

    • He Fengqi March 25, 2015 at 7:21 pm #

Hi OρтιмυѕƤяιмє, thank you for writing in, it is a great thought for all players and us to share, thank you again!
